Im looking for something that cleans grout in ceramic tile floors?

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

I am wondering if a steam mop like the Shark cleans well for the grout in the floor? Or maybe a chemical i can put in the water when i mop it? My house is mostly ceramic tile….any suggestions will help. thank you!

Well, you can scrub the grout with white vinegar and an old toothbrush, but it’s a job that you’ll end up doing every couple of days.

Or you can do what I did and paint the grout. I used regular house paint that I had tinted light gray. (Plain white also works.) I used a Satin Sheen and painted with an artist’s brush — the kind of brush normally used for watercolors. And the paint doesn’t wear off because the grout is recessed…it lasts.

If you want a more natural look, paint with a light shade of gray and then "speckle" with a dry-brush in a slightly darker shade. To dry brush, you wipe the brush on a rag each time you renew the paint….basically you paint with a dry brush.

Our grout is as easy to keep clean as the tiles since I painted it…I just wipe it with a microfiber cloth and water — that’s it. No more scrubbing with a toothbrush.

Good luck.

Is it safe to take a housekeeping job from craigslist?

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

A close friend of mine found a local housekeeping job from someone with poor, foreign-sounding english skills on reddit. The person says he and his wife are from England and are offering $45 an hour when they move into town to clean their apartment for a week (just a couple of hours every few days). It just seems kind of weird that someone with enough money to pay someone $45 an hour for housecleaning would get an apartment instead of buying a house to begin with. Is there reason for suspicion here?

Heck yeah there’s reason for suspicion. Just the $45 an hr. is most likely too good to be true, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. But you could always get their names and ask for a phone # google their names just to see what comes up.
